Underplayed is a good word for much of this film’s finale I think. It refuses you that real burst of catharsis, instead restraining itself which oddly makes it more powerful because it just sits at the top of your mind. That ending scene in particular is played in such a grounded way, stripped back of melodrama to the point that it lands with quite a thud!
