This is a great piece, Mira, on a film I haven't thought about perhaps since seeing it around the time of its release in 2016. You've made me consider returning to it.

Stephen Frears is a great director, sometimes. He's a little inconsistent, but a film like My Beautiful Laundrette is hard to come by. I also like his adaptation of High Fidelity a decent amount. Need to see Dangerous Liaisons sometime!
