My 100 Favourite Films (2024 Edition)
Continuing my yearly updates on the greatest of the greats
It’s January 1st! Meaning, time to list 100 movies that I hold in especially high esteem right now, because trying to have one concrete top 100 is like trying to pin jelly to a wall, before we say goodbye to lists for another year. So, as I did last year (and on previous years on my Letterboxd account), I’m simply going to list 100 films that came to mind yesterday as the ones I wouldn’t want to live without.
Some brief side-notes:
This year has been one fraught with anxiety, general busy-ness and exhaustion. This means that I have not been watching anywhere near as many actually challenging films as I’d have liked to. Plus side — more to see in the future! Down side — the list isn’t that different from last year’s.
I also decided against including miniseries this year having gone back and forth on that idea previously. It feels like a small cop-out, so I cut them this year. Maybe they’ll return a year from now!
And finally, a moment of silence before the list begins for all of the excellent films I have seen but saw them too long ago to remember if they’re good enough to actually include.
