I wouldn't say that they were necessarily bad reviews - I'm not sure anybody called it a disaster, or anything - but they were exaggerated given Fincher's strong track record. I think Mank is okay, but nothing particularly special. I think the general response, at first, was middling, but it seems to be slowly developing a bit of a cult following which is interesting!
