I think I always have more of an annoyed response to a film like this, more so than to a Bay film (who I’m actually partial to a lot of the time!), because this film clearly thinks it is genius and seems to relish in ensuring that the audience thinks the same. I find the over-intellectualising of it so tiresome and uninteresting, but as you said that ties in with the prestige/elevated horror idea completely too
