I have listened to only one audiobook. Ever. It was Mark Fisher’s Acid Communism, which I listened to twice back to back to let it sink in as much as possible while I couldn’t sleep and mindlessly played Solitaire with the cards all on my floor. In that very specific context, I had a good time and felt like I learned something. I can’t remember much of the book now, though.
Generally, I’m a physical book only person. I struggle with digital texts (and found Uni class reading difficult because of this). But that is just me - I’m not really for or against audiobooks. Whatever helps people access great works is good by me! If that means listening while going for a walk or doing mundane tasks, it’s still an overall win for art, even if I’d find it impossible to focus and wouldn’t retain the story being told.
I’m very much a ‘my own pace’ (see: SLOW AS ALL HELL!!!) reader, and I need to take my time to comprehend and think through ideas or narrative moments. Maybe I am a little stupid… but, physical only for me because of that!
