I don’t remember the second film very well, but the first was very refreshing at the time. The timing of its release was perfect, just as superhero fatigue was starting to kick in (for me at least) it offered something new.

It’s that refreshing quality that is sorely missing here, where anything even remotely daring feels awkward and tryhard rather than genuine. It all feels too safe!
