I definitely think that some slow films can be truly exciting. They're not all these difficult tests of patience - I love a lot of them! Many are so beautiful as they focus so purely on the image and those subtle movements within it, it's great.
I'm not sure if the pandemic will have too much of an impact on slow cinema, with the vast majority of it being so independent and art-house anyway. But it'll be interesting to keep an eye on how the style mutates as American films are starting to show its influence. I just saw Andrea Arnold's new documentary Cow this week and couldn't stop thinking of that opening from Satantango the entire time!
