I can understand that view, definitely. I can see that Fincher's opening could be seen as a bit edgy for sure, but I think it makes the film interesting through its subversion alone. I appreciate the risk-taking and the surprise of that, especially as a modern viewer when blockbusters like this are almost always so predictable. But yes, definitely a depressing watch after the hope of Aliens!
